Raising a Healthy Family Without Religion.

AgnosticMom Breaks Mainstream Barrier

We might be making some headway.

Have you heard of ClubMom.com? It’s a mainstream mother’s website, an affiliate of momcentral.com, which has a new spot on the Today Show called, Parent Central. ClubMom has three million subscribers.

Thanks to my editor, Duncan Crary of the Humanist News Network, ClubMom has asked me to become an “Expert Writer” for the website. According to our agreement, I will be providing them with 25 prewritten articles (the “non-attacking” stuff you read here and in my HNN column) over the next month or so.

They said they love the unusual niche (and my writing) regarding parents who want to raise their families without religion. They said they see a need for this!

The “Expert Writers” are pre-published book authors, professional writers who ClubMom compensates with publicity. They made an exception for AgnosticMom, a non-professional, non-book author, because they like the topic! I think we’re making a little headway here.

  1. Laura:

    This is great news!

I hope your site is ready for big hits.

Is a book next? Or Oprah?
    Teasing. Or am I?

  2. Noell:

Thanks, Laura!!! MY OWN BOOK is not yet in the works. I am still in learning/brainstorming mode.

There are other smaller opportunities unfolding. But since they are not for sure I won’t announce them here, just in case they don’t happen. I’ll wait until they are sure.

  3. fran:

I was just invited to join a group on msn and they are calling it nature v god . I respectfully declined adding . “Why would I be interested in joining a group that started with the title “Nature v God ” when even the titles suggestion promotes bias to begin with. What a mess that site will be in about a week. Talk about teenywhackers on prozac……………:)

  4. Tami:

Congrats Noell! I knew you were bound for great things since the day we met!
    You’re the ONE!!

  5. dudley:

    Congrats!!!

  6. Jen:

Woo! That’s great news! Good for you, good for the readers of club mom. Keep us posted - let us know when your articles are out. Congrats!

  7. Stephanie:

Congratulations Noell! I am a ClubMom member, and I am excited to read your articles!

  8. Skysinger:

Great news! You deserve the recognition!

  9. Olga:

Congratulations, Noell! I used to be a member of ClubMom, but I found it a bit overwhelming. NOW I’ll definitely renew my membership so I could read your articles. By the way, will they list your blog in the MomBlogs Directory? They have two moms under Religion and Beliefs category. I think the Directory could be a good place to promote your blog.

  10. Zoe:

    Wonderful! :)

  11. Ron:

I believe this is what the French refer to as:
F*$&ing Terrific!!! (with all due respect for the French)

    Congratulations!
Wow - you’ve really got to get cracking!! Give the kids whips and tell them to beat mommy if her fingers stop typing :) Twenty five is no small number! Heck - that’s a book in itself, with some well-placed padding.

Don’t forget to keep us linked up! This will lead to many a strange avenue. The best part is that they feel there is a need for it! Yes, indeed there is! You will likely be bated like never before - stay happy!

Any wagers on when the first disgruntled call for a ‘SatanicMom’ column occurs?

Now you stand an even better chance of having Pat Robertson determine the cause of your weather, bunions and/or bird-related plagues.

  12. Noell:

Thanks everybody. I hope I don’t disappoint you when I tell you that they use pre-written work. This means I do not have to come up twenty-five NEW articles (unless I wanted to). Most of their experts use exerpts from their books. I don’t have a book but I have a blog, so I will be revising and editing blog entries and sending them in.

That’s where the disappointment part may come in: If you’ve read all of my blog and HNN articles, my ClubMom articles will not be new to you. Just slightly improved. So, yes, I have a lot of editing work to do over the next month.

They MIGHT set up a message board for my articles if I want to moderate it. I’m not sure if I want to.

I am not going to be a blogger (although I’d like to be because their bloggers get PAID!) but wherever my articles appear on their site, there will be a link to my blog. My hope is that they will eventually pick me up as a blogger. In that case, my workload would definitely pick up.

Thanks for all the congratulations! And Tami: You’re the OTHER one!

  13. Mary:

This is so great, Noell! What a terrific opportunity for you. You are definitely well on your way to becoming an expert on the topic of raising children without religion. I certainly think a book deal is entirely possible.

  14. mothergoosemouse:

Congratulations!!! That is fantastic - I am truly thrilled to hear it. Please update us when articles are published.

  15. Sadie:

Fantastic. What is the greatest to hear is that they say there is a need for it…finally it is being recognized as a need. I think if more people were aware that such sites as these exist they would be more comfortable and open about their need for it. Congrats!

  16. casey kochmer:

    wow big time :) congrats!

I just get this picture of you clubbing now from that title: clubbing moms

    can you club thru churches?
