Atheist Delusion

Two points of business.

Number one is to answer a question from MomSquared: I am curious whether the name Trinity is religious in origin or not?

The origin of Trinity’s name happens to be the movie, The Matrix. That’s it. We were Mormons when we chose that name and Mormons reject the concept of the Trinity. They refer to the three gods as the Godhead and teach that they are three distinct beings who are one in purpose, not one in being. We had a few people quite unhappy about our name choice. One personoften said to me, “But we’re Mormons! We’re not Catholic!”

There was another major concern mentioned by Angel, which I’d like to address in a separate post when I have more time.

And point of business number two, check out this video, The Atheist Delusion.

That video was awesome, thanks for the link.

  2. MomSquared:

ah, okay. I’ve heard of a lot of Trinitys and I’ve always wondered about that.

Now I have to wonder where the name came from in the Matrix!

  3. MomSquared:

Also, I was wondering about the mormon belief about the Trinity. What you’ve said makes sense in the context of other things I’ve learned about Mormonism.

  4. Sarah:

Great video! I thought it was sincere at first… That’s how bad things have gotten!

  5. Allison:

Sarah, I was getting irritated at first too! But then, until recently, I lived in the Colorado Springs area, where a video like that might *not* be ironic. At all.

I’m getting spoiled by the progressive bent here in Santa Fe!

  6. Doug:

    Watched the video…
    Can you say dogmatic!

Trinity originated with the Hindus as a reference to Vishnu as three persons in one and combined they are one god . Some estimate was as much as 600 years bc. Christ used the very same sequence to introduce his relationship to almighty god . Try entering the word in your browser . There are many examples beyond hinduism but that is the most verifiable useage

  8. Otis Mcalaster:

The gentleman suggested that the Trinity was of Hindu Origin While they do in fact have a trinity In their religion, this is incorrect. There are Trinities that pre date theirs by thousands of years. All the way back to babaylon. Plato also played a part in the formulation of the trinity. It cannot really be tied to any one source for it’s origin. Many things and many people played a role in it’s developement. The one thing for sure is that it is not in the bible.
