Secular Parenting Forum

Author Dale McGowen opened up a Parenting Beyond Belief forum. I spent some time this morning looking around, posting replies. Go check it out!
I have some stories to tell plus an article to write for next week’s issue of HNN. You’ll be hearing from me soon.

Thanks for the link! I went and browsed around, too. It looks like it will be a great forum. I’ve also been giving hints to my husband about the book….I can’t wait for it to be available

I looked at the forum and it looks like it will be a very good one. I like the way the topics are catagorized and the fact that it is moderated should greatly enhance the quality.
It will be interesting to see what comments come into the “Wonders of Science” catagory. As I have commented before, last year I worked on the development of a class titled “Science Literacy for Nonscientists” and though it was geared to senior citizens, I hadn’t considered how it might be applied to children. I suspect it would need to be used at the high school level. I am quite excited about the fact that a program at California State University has requested that I make a presentation in the form of a series of biweekly classes this coming Fall semester. Again it is aimed at senior citizens in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute but there is very little, if any, math involved and the approach is to explore the nature of science as a process and then identify and understand key principles of science, get some background on how the scientists came up with them and then relate them to our lives today.

Hi Noell
I happened upon your website as I was searching for input on how to respond to as question my children seem to be very close to asking….What happens to people when they die? I think at this age (they have just turned 4) they need an answer that is more definitive than “some people believe this or that”. But at the same time I feel it will freak them out to hear the brutal honest truth that the end is the end. I was hoping you could share your wisdom with me or suggest some reading.
Thank you

Hi there! Just stumbled you site and thanks for recommending the link you’ve found. This will give me more knowledge in parenting, it’s issues, resolutions and more…and I just realized now the that parenting without religion is something unusual for me because as you know I’m a believer. I’ll hang around in this site and see for myself what are the differences between parenting without belief and parenting with great attachment with Him.
